What happens to my funds if my booking cannot be confirmed?

Find out why you might see a pending charge after booking, and what happens to your money if your booking can't be confirmed.

Some tours are confirmed instantly, while others need the operator to confirm your booking first. If your booking needs to be confirmed, we place a pre-authorization on your card or PayPal account rather than charging you straight away.

Why do I see a pending charge on my card?

If you see a pending charge on your card or PayPal account, it can look like you've already been charged. It's usually a pre-authorization: the amount is reserved while the operator confirms your booking, and it's only taken as payment once your booking is confirmed.

If you pay with iDEAL, the payment is taken straight away instead.

When will I get my money back if my booking isn't confirmed?

We'll contact you on your Booking Conversation Page to discuss alternative tours or departure dates. If there's no suitable alternative, or you decide not to go ahead:

  • Credit card or PayPal: the pre-authorization is canceled and the reserved amount is released back to your account. This typically takes 3 to 7 business days, depending on your bank. As you weren't charged, it usually won't show as a refund: the pending amount disappears from your account instead.

  • iDEAL: we start a refund straight away. The money usually returns to your account within a few business days, depending on your bank.

What if my booking is confirmed instantly?

If your booking is confirmed instantly, the deposit or full payment is charged straight away to your card, PayPal account or iDEAL. Find out more in How do I know if my booking is confirmed?.
