What is a single supplement?
A single supplement is the additional cost a solo traveler pays to have a private room on a tour.
Why do I need to pay more for a single supplement?
Shared rooming is available on some tours for solo travelers. A single supplement only applies if a private room is booked or required by the operator.
This is because most tour accommodation is priced assuming two people share a room.-
When two travelers share a room, they split the room cost.
-
When one traveler stays alone in a private room, that person covers the full room cost.
The single supplement is the difference between the shared cost and the cost of using the room privately. It reflects single occupancy, not an added service.
For example, if a room costs $200 per night, two travelers sharing would effectively cover $100 each as part of their tour price. If one traveler uses the room alone, they must cover the full $200. The single supplement reflects that difference.
What room options are available for solo travelers?
Room options depend on the tour and operator. As a solo traveler, you may see one of the following:
-
Shared Room: Some operators match solo travelers of the same gender to share a room.
This keeps costs lower because the accommodation price is split between two people. -
Private Room: You stay in the room alone. In this case, a single supplement applies because you are covering the full cost of the room yourself.
- Multi Share: On some youth-focused tours (for example, 18–30s tours), accommodation may be in shared dorm-style rooms. This will be clearly listed in the Accommodation section on the tour page and on the booking page.
The availability of shared rooming depends on the tour, the operator, and the style of accommodation. If shared rooming is not offered, solo travelers must book a private room and the single supplement is mandatory.
How can I see my room options before booking?
To review your room options:
-
Open the tour page.
-
Select your preferred departure date.
-
Check the room options on the booking page.
Decide whether you prefer the privacy of a single room or are open to sharing. Choosing a private room will increase the total cost of your tour.

If you can’t find the single supplement details for a specific tour, click Contact Operator on the tour page to ask the operator directly.
TourRadar includes features that clearly show solo pricing and available room options before you book.
